Center for Advanced Medicine

Hematology Division

The Hematology Division provides inpatient consultation and outpatient care at Barnes-Jewish Hospital for patients with blood disorders. Included in these are patients with hematologic complications from non-hematologic diseases and therapies.

In the ambulatory (outpatient) setting, our hematologists monitor patients with primary hematologic diseases who require continuing or intermittent medical care, including those with sickle cell disease, hemophilia and acquired chronic illnesses such as polycythemia vera and ITP.

Oncology Division

The Oncology Division is devoted to preventing, diagnosing and treating cancer. There are two distinct clinical services - Medical Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation.

The Section of Medical Oncology treats patients with nearly all types of cancers. With a dedicated oncology unit at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and several conveniently located outpatient clinics in the St. Louis area, our physicians see over 20,000 patients each year. Their strength lies not only in their individual clinical expertise but in the resources of the medical center, including the latest in technology and the multidisciplinary collaboration with surgical and radiation oncologists.

The Section of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Leukemia provides advanced treatment for patients with leukemia, lymphoma and aplastic anemia. Pioneers in developing both allogeneic and autologous bone marrow and peripheral blood stem cell transplantation, the clinicians in this section perform about 300 transplants each year. They are working to define better techniques to purify human stem cells, deplete bone marrow of contaminating tumor cells, and develop methods of T cell depletion to minimize graft vs. host disease and maximize graft vs. leukemia.

For an appointment with an oncologist, call 800-647-2098.
To contact a specific oncologist, see Physician's Directory.

To refer a patient for bone marrow transplantation, referring physicians should call 314-454-8304.
