The ASH Scholar Awards provide financial support to fellows and junior faculty who have dedicated their careers to the study of blood disorders.

As a medical resident at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis more than 50 years ago, Stuart A. Kornfeld, MD, was awarded his first research grant. The year was 1966. The final keystone section of St. Louis’ Gateway Arch recently had been welded into place.

Philip W. Majerus, MD, a renowned hematologist and professor emeritus of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, died at his home in St. Louis on June 8, 2016, after a long illness. He was 79.
