Stuart Kornfeld is one of six people who received honorary degrees at Washington University’s commencement on May 20-21. He is best known for the study of how sugars attach to proteins and the roles these molecules play in how cells function. His work on the trafficking of proteins to lysosomes via the mannose-6-phosphate pathway led to new understandings of inherited disorders known as lysosomal storage diseases.
